My name is Tim Ponticello and my goal is to help you build functional strength and muscle through bodyweight training / calisthenics.
Before I got into bodyweight training, I trained at a traditional gym for years. I got results, but suffered from countless injuries along the way.
Once I switched jobs and lost my employee gym, I was looking for a different way to train at my house (I started working from home). That’s when I stumbled across calisthenics and fell in love.
How was it that I trained in the gym all these years, yet still couldn’t do some of the advanced moves I was seeing like pistol squats and back levers?
It made me question the true definition of strength. That’s when I realized that I wanted to become a master of my own bodyweight.
The funny thing is that once I made the switch to bodyweight training, all of my nagging injuries went away. I also began putting on weight (which I was trying to do), and felt ridiculously strong. Daily activities became easier.
Although I still have a long way to go and am learning more every day, I decided to create this blog to help and inspire others along their journey.
I’m not a purist, and still believe there is value in lifting weights. In fact, I incorporate weighted calisthenics into my routine for exercises such as dips, pull-ups, etc.
So if you are a weightlifter looking for something new and exciting to add to your routine, you are more than welcome here!
Or if you are brand new to training and for whatever reason don’t want to or can’t train at a gym (i.e. you travel a lot), I feel confident there is something here that can help you.
Below is a picture of me in my college years (late 2000’s) alongside a more recent picture after I began calisthenics.
As you can see, I put on a decent amount of weight and muscle. I went from 140 lbs to 160 lbs. Gaining weight has always been tough for me, so this was a major accomplishment.
